Troubleshooting
Quick checks for common issues. Last updated: July 16, 2026
- No books after I pick a folder
- Confirm you chose the folder that actually contains audiobook folders (not an empty parent). Stay on a network, open Status, and wait for Index to finish. Then pull to refresh Browse.
- Books appear but covers or titles look wrong
-
Prefer folders named
Author - Titleand clean ID3 tags. Open the book, edit Author/Title if needed, then resolve again. Unmatched books can appear under Browse → Unresolved. - Play waits a long time / never starts
- The current track must download (or be cached). Check network and Status for download errors. Try another track, or pause other heavy downloads. Low storage can also block downloads.
- Sound stops when I leave the app
- Keep media playback notification permission allowed on Android 13+. Check battery optimization is not killing the player for Asteroid.
- I lost my place in the book
- Open Listening History (clock icon) and restore an earlier position. Cross-device progress needs cloud sync enabled and a Google account for Drive app data when you use that feature.
- Cloud sign-in fails (Dropbox / OneDrive / Google sync)
- Use a normal network (not a captive portal). Sign out and sign in again. For OneDrive, the Azure app registration must include the signature hash for your install type (debug vs Play).
- Sync / progress does not update on another phone
- Enable progress sync under Settings, stay signed in to Google for app-data sync, and wait after pause (writes are debounced). Pull Latest Played or reopen the book on the other device.
- App feels stuck indexing
- Indexing prefers the app in the foreground (or while playing). Check Status for stalls or sign-in issues. Pause and resume from Status, or leave the app open on Wi‑Fi for a while.
Still stuck? Mail asteroid@jlundmark.org with your app version (Settings → About) and a short description of what you tried.
